Our History
Sprowston Valkyries emerged in 1992 from the former Carrow Ladies Hockey Club which has been established for about 80 years as part of Colmans and played on the Company ground at Lakenham.
Following the lease/sale of the Lakenham complex, the Club had to relinquish the hockey pitch to accomodate new indoor tennis facilities being built on the playing area. The Club was fortunate in finding a new home with Sprowston Cricket Club at Barkers Lane for the 1992/93 season and changed their name to Sprowston Valkyries. The following year the first team gained promotion to Division 1 (of the then Larking & Gowen League) and co-incided, for the first time in the history of a club, with the introduction of a second team.
The Norfolk Hockey league is now sponsored by Martin & Acock Chartered Accountants. The first team play in the East League Division 2NE and the second team in Division 2. Club colours are red shirts with red socks and navy skirts and the change strip is blue shirts with navy skirts and socks.
Match Fees and Subscriptions
Adult Subscriptions:
£55 per season if paid before Sept 5th 2009
£60 per season if paid before Sept 30th 2009
£70 per season if paid October onwards
Junior Subscriptions (Under 18’s):
£30 per season
Match Fees:
£5.00 per game for adults
£3.00 per game for children
(No match fees are paid when you provide teas)
Training Fees: £2.00 Adults / £1.00 Juniors
Langley School
Directions to Langley School:
Langley School, Langley Park, Loddon, Norfolk, NR14 6BJ
By car… Follow the A146 from Norwich towards Lowestoft. Approximately one mile after the village of Thurton turn left (signed Langley). Take the next left into Big Back Lane. At the T-Junction turn left again and at the top of the hill, the entrance to Langley School is on the left.
Parking… proceed down the drive and turn right into the mini-bus car park. Follow signs to the hockey pitch, or wait for a member of the home team to show you to the changing rooms. For more information: www.langleyschool.co.uk
